About Hive Taranaki
Liveable Communities ~ Sustainable Lifestyles...
Mana Whenua, Mana Tangata, Manaaki.
Our mission is to facilitate systemic change to achieve sustainable communities.
Hive Taranaki is the trading name for the Taranaki Environmental Education Trust (Charities No. CC31884), a charitable trust which has been working for Taranaki since 1992.
At Hive Taranaki, we identify key projects and opportunities that will make the biggest contribution towards creating sustainable communities in Taranaki, and we make them happen.
At our Centre in New Plymouth, we manage a range of projects including the Hive Environment Centre, Enviroschools Program, Hive Connection and the Hive Radio Show.
Dion Cowley-Social Enterprise Coordinator
Dion comes with a wealth of experience and expertise, particularly around sustainable building, and is a great asset to our team. He's working hard to set up our new venue, retail shop, green drinks and other social enterprises. He's the man at Hive each Wednesday-Friday, feel free to come on in, say hi, and pick his brain.
Rachel Eckersley-Enviroschools Coordinator
Rachel coordinates the Enviroschools Program and is a valued member of the Hive Team. She mainly runs professional development workshop for teachers, and designs and facilitates sustainability education programmes for both children and adults. She sailed to NZ on a waka called Magic Roundabout, and ever since then she's been loving what Taranaki has to offer - surf, great growing conditions, te reo Maori, new sustainability adventures and the awesome mission that is Enviroschools. You can find her at Hive on Mondays.
Donna Davies - Enviroschools Facilitator
Donna is thrilled to be back living in Taranaki after too long away! She's our new Enviroschools Facilitator and general get-things-done lady at Hive on Tuesdays. She's come from teaching in an Auckland enviroschool, so she has first hand experience in making sustainability integral to teaching, not an add-on. When she's not busy with schools, she and her partner love acquiring and planting native trees along the river on their property at Uruti.
Val is a trustee and provides financial and administration services for Hive Taranaki. She has a background in education and has been involved in governance for 20 years
Jen has a particular interest in Social Enterprise. She previously worked at the NPDC as a Sustainability Coordinator, where she designed a successful waste strategy for NPDC offices and sites.
