Arthouse Cinema

For a limited time Arthouse Cinema is offering $5 discounts to anyone cycling to a movie.

Arthouse Cinema begun at Butlers Reef January 2009.  It continued into winter with the benevolence of the Govett Brewster Art Gallery and found its own home at the Mayfair January 2010.  Arthouse is a Charitable Trust created by Rose Stoddart, Claire White , Maryanne Rossiter Bennett and Ross Bennett.

History

If you would listen to the film industry; they would tell you the numbers never stacked up for the creation of our own cinema here.  We ignored that and did it bottom up.  Local business has supported us every step of the way and we encourage you to support our sponsors where you can.  We rely on your ticket and our volunteers to remain open.

We are committed to the idea of accessible alternative film for everybody – and have ploughed every penny into either the overheads or improving the experience.  We have a wishlist and if you feel able to contribute your time or enthusiasm please contact aingie@arthousecinema.co.nz If you have an idea that you think might gel with Arthouse, we’ll listen to you.

If you are interested in hiring a venue for a private movie with 75 seats (10 of which are beanbags), and an open bar you just need to drop us an email to enquire.

Can I Help?

We have over fifty volunteers whom are self described film buffs and are essential both to the character of the cinema and its day to day running. Just email Aingie if you feel some volunteering coming on: aingie@arthousecinema.co.nz
