Inspiring Stories Filmmakers Project

The Project

You can think of the project as a bicycle. There are two wheels – the first is a series of workshops (March-July), and the second is a film festival (November). Both will roll out over 2011, and then again in 2012, and beyond. Like a bicycle, both wheels are mutually reinforcing and with an innovative framework holding it together, we can create some great momentum and take loads of people along for the ride!

The Workshops

The workshops are hands-on, and provide connection, mentoring, and training for energetic young Kiwi’s aged 13-26. We’re holding 15 two-day workshops, on in each of New Zealand’s 15 regions, with each workshop accommodating 10 young filmmakers. Each workshop is designed to prepare participants for an 8-week documentary film production on an inspirational young person doing great things in their region. Workshops cover the following areas:

  • Principles of good story telling & effective communication
  • Understanding and experience of the production process
  • Creative digital media (filmmaking/photography/web)
  • Connection with innovative young people in their regions
  • Connection with 2-3 local industry professionals/mentors
  • Planted the seeds for the 8-week film project with clear goals & milestones in place
